We arrived at this small old store in Hsinpu town to experience the process of hand-made popsicle which has a long history over hundred years.p There was photo of famous tv star “Wang li hong” on the wall. However, I found out later that he had been to every spot in Hsinpu and taken photos with owners.
The owner was a very friendly man who was proud of his job as a popsicle artisan.
At first I thought we were just going to experience the process, but we ended up making hundreds of persimmon popsicles for four hours. It requires some physical strength since the mould is very heavy, especially with twenty frozen popsicles in it. Normally the owner and his wife do the entire job themselves, so he wouldn’t let free laborers go.
The owner let us try the popsicle we made ourselves after finishing up. Popsicle with dried persimmon tasted like frozen yogurt.
